Term Life Insurance

Protect income, a mortgage, and the years your family depends on you. Compare coverage amounts and policy lengths before choosing a premium you can keep paying.

Quotes are estimates. Availability and approval depend on state, carrier, and underwriting.

What does term life insurance cover?

Term life insurance provides a death benefit if the insured person dies while the policy is in force during its covered term. It is often considered when the need for protection has a foreseeable end, such as children becoming financially independent or a mortgage being repaid. A standard term policy generally does not build cash value.

Start with the obligation rather than a policy name: what money would your household need, and for how long?

Choose the amount and the timeline together

Write down the income your household would need to replace, debts you want covered, childcare costs, and education goals. Subtract existing coverage and resources you intend to use. The result is a starting point for discussion, not a promise that one amount fits every family.

For example, a parent with a long mortgage and young children may compare a longer term with a shorter, lower-cost option. An empty nester with fewer obligations may reach a different conclusion. Use our coverage calculator to organize your own numbers.

What affects the cost of term life insurance?

Age, health history, tobacco use, coverage amount, policy length, and the insurer’s underwriting process can affect the premium. A quick quote is an estimate; the insurer decides the final offer after reviewing the application.

When comparing quotes, use the same benefit amount and term. Ask whether premiums are guaranteed for the entire period, how renewal works, and whether conversion to permanent coverage is available. A lower first-year premium alone does not tell the whole story.

Bring these questions to your consultation

What happens when the level-premium period ends? What deadlines apply to conversion? Are riders included or optional? Could employer coverage leave a gap if I change jobs?

You do not need every answer before getting started. Bring your current policy, a monthly budget range, and your main concern. We can use those details to compare available options.

Questions to help you decide

Can I buy term life insurance without a medical exam?

Some carriers offer application paths that may not require an exam. Health questions or other underwriting information may still be required, and approval is not guaranteed.

What if I outlive the term?

A standard term policy generally does not pay a death benefit simply because its term ends. Renewal, conversion, or return-of-premium features depend on the contract.

Is term or whole life better?

Term addresses a defined period; whole life is designed for permanent protection with different costs and features. Compare the need, budget, and guarantees rather than assuming one is always better.
